“That’s not fair!”  Who hasn’t said these words?  Heard them from our children?  Been to a sporting event lately?  It seems that from birth we have an acute sensitivity to what is or isn’t fair—especially when we think we’re getting the short end of the stick.

But how often do we ask what’s fair in our economy, our budget, our shopping, or our gift giving?  The world economy is staggeringly massive and incomprehensible—like the universe.

Or is it?

Edna Ruth Byler found simple ways to help women living in poverty on a trip to Puerto Rico in 1946.  She brought back their handmade wares and showed people how each purchase meant that a woman gained economic independence and a chance to give her family a brighter future.

It was a simple idea. But a pioneering one that would launch Ten Thousand Villages and blossom into a global fair trade movement.

Simple–not easy.

Join us the evening of April 18th at the Mennonite Heritage Center for the Annual Heritage Banquet at the Paul M. Nyce Barn to hear stories of struggle and triumph from people who have dedicated their lives to Edna’s mission.  Experience the products that are providing a fair wage, an education, and new hope—and maybe even take some home with you.  All proceeds will be shared by Ten Thousand Villages Souderton and the Mennonite Heritage Center.

Cost:  $120/person ($90 tax deductible)
