Enjoy learning the creative folk art of scherenschnitte, or paper cutting. Scherenschnitte, a German word for scissors cutting, was a popular Pennsylvania German craft during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in which intricate designs were cut in paper with a scissors or a knife. Artist Pam Rankin Hults will teach the workshop. Students will take home a finished piece along with a finished grain painted frame provided by the instructor. Pam’s husband, John, makes the frames for her paper cuttings, as well as small cabinets and boxes.
Participants should bring along a cutting surface, exacto knife or small scissors and small paint brushes. All other materials for the workshop will be supplied. Workshop fee is $55 ($50 for members) plus a materials fee of $25. Preregistration required. Scholarships are available, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts.
