Workshop: Crochet a Rag Rug, part II

Hetznecker rag rug II

Building on what student’s have learned from creating an oval rag rug in the Rag Rug I workshop in September, this class will focus on how to start and continue the three other basic rag rug shapes – round, square and rectangle.  The workshop will be led by Cathy Hetznecker.

Rag rugs were born out of recessional times, when materials were difficult to come by. So much of the fun in creating these rugs is choosing fabrics that were once something else, such as: old jeans, cordoroys, flannel shirts, sheets and curtains. You can also use new yardage. Remember you will be starting 3 rugs, so plan on using approximately 10 yards of fabric per rug.  Focus on choosing a variety of soft cotton fabrics in a range of colors and values.  Please bring sharp fabric scissors, size Q crochet hook, and a variety of fabrics cut into 1 1/2” strips to class.  The workshop fee is $55 ($50 members).  Preregistration required.  Scholarships are available, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts.
