Wool Appliqué Technique Workshop

fraktur bird wool project

Led by quilt artist and author Gretchen Gibbons, participants will enjoy learning all about working with wool and wool appliqué while making a beautiful 14″x 14″ fraktur bird wall hanging top. Participants should have some basic knowledge of quilting or stitchery experience for this project.

Workshop instructor Gretchen Gibbons has been a quilt designer and teacher for the past twenty years.  Lately Gretchen’s interest has been combining wool and cotton in a new, fresh but traditional folksy sort of way.  Embellishing the quilt with embroidery and beads has added to this new look.  Nature is another theme that runs throughout Gretchen’s quilts and her life.  The beauty of our natural surroundings has always brought her happiness and peace. Her second quilt book, “My Enchanted Garden”, was released in February 2014 and demonstrates her love of appliqué designs that combine cotton, wool and nature themes.

A kit will be supplied which would include the wool, a needle, threads, pattern, and cotton for the border. Please bring a pair of paper scissors and a pair of fabric scissors. Class size is limited and preregistration is required. Class fee is $55 ($50 member) plus a materials fee of $12 for the kit.
