Theorem Painting on Velvet Workshop

April theorem painting workshopLed by well known theorem artist, Sandra Coldren, students will learn painting techniques for the 19th century form of stenciling known as theorem painting.  All skill levels will enjoy using pre-cut stencils and artist oil paints on cotton velveteen, while learning the history of the art in America.  Each student will complete one design suitable for framing in a standard 9” x 12” frame.

Students may choose one of two Ephrata Cloister design kits offered (shown at left), and will take home one completed theorem design on cotton velveteen, along with one set of stencils and written instructions to create additional theorems of the same design at home.  All materials to complete the one theorem painting in class will be supplied by the instructor. (The frame is not included in the workshop fees.)

Students are requested to bring masking tape, paper towels, pencil, and a #1 liner brush   (optional supplies are 1/8” to 1/2″ stencil brushes).  The second kit may be purchased for an additional fee.

Preregistration is necessary as the workshop size is limited. The workshop fee is $55 ($50 member) plus a materials fee of $45 per student.
