Program: “This Very Ground, This Crooked Affair” by John Ruth

This Very GroundOn Thursday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m. local historian John L. Ruth will give a presentation at Franconia Elementary School, 366 Harleysville Pike, Souderton.

Through stories and image, Dr. Ruth will explore the transfer of land from Lenape hunting woods to immigrant plantations, specifically in the Branch Creek watershed. William Penn and Lenape Headman Sassoonan are featured in the story.  Emphasis will be placed on how the land transactions look after a quarter-millennium.  The presentation has been well-received not only by those with interest in Native Americans, but by those who love the landscape we call the “Indian Valley”.

John L. Ruth is a prolific author, speaker, and tour leader.  His most recent work, Branch: A Memoir with Pictures, will be available for purchase at the event.

The night is sponsored by the Mennonite Heritage Center as part of our 40th anniversary celebration.  Donations will be accepted at the door and will benefit the work of the center.
