Do you love a fresh slice of home baked pie but have never tackled making your own pie crust?
The Mennonite Heritage Center, 565 Yoder Road, Harleysville, announces a Pie, Glorious Pie workshop scheduled for Saturday, July 15 from 9 am to 2 pm. Participants will make both a traditional Pennsylvania Dutch pie crust/shoofly pie and a more contemporary ricotta cheese pie crust/apple crumb pie. Participants will also go home with additional tried and true recipes.
Instructor Alice Keppley, head of the Goschenhoppen Festival 19th century fruit pie baking demonstration, will teach participants the finer points of pie baking along with presenting an illustrated program on pie history and pie baking. Participants should bring a rolling pin, mixing bowls, pastry blender, paring knife and 2 pie plates. The materials fee of $10 will cover the baking ingredients for the workshop.
Preregistration is necessary as the workshop size is limited. The workshop fee is $60 ($55 member) plus the $10 materials fee.
