Led by historians Joel Alderfer and Forrest Moyer, this tour will highlight sites associated with the families of 18th century Meyer-Moyer immigrants who settled in the Mennonite communities of the Bucks and Montgomery County area. There were at least ten Meyer-Moyer immigrant families who settled early in these communities – we’ll drive past a number of these homestead sites, stopping at a couple. We’ll also visit several historic Mennonite congregations and cemeteries where Meyer-Moyer families were members and leaders, and are buried.
We’ll drive past several businesses formerly or currently owned by Moyer families, and stop for a visit with at least one, Moyer’s Chicks, a hatchery near Quakertown. We may also include a stop at the company formerly called Moyer & Son, now Moyer Indoor/Outdoor, in Souderton.
Our lunch stop will be at the Blooming Glen Mennonite Church pavilion, with a delicious picnic catered by Blooming Glen Catering (a Moyer owned company). Known for their quality pork products and catering, the lunch will include two hot entrees and three sides.
Tour fee: $110.00 per person; $100.00 for MHC members (fee includes lunch). Transportation will be by Hagey Coach. Tour will depart from Hagey’s terminal, Schoolhouse Rd., Souderton, 8:45am, and return about 5:00pm (participants meet and park at Hagey’s).
