Intermediate Spinning Workshop

yarnTHIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL SPRING 2017. Check back in the new year for information.

The workshop will be led by textile artist Ruth Konrad who was given her first sheep in the early 1980’s and taught herself to spin, and from there to knit and weave. Ruth takes special joy in teaching others to weave and to enter the creative world of fiber arts.

In this class participants will learn how to refine their spinning skills, become more consistent in their results, and to anticipate how to spin for a particular project.  We will explore many techniques and experiment with specific textile tools including: A Great Wheel, Charka, Wool Combs, Hand Cards, and to a lesser extent-Flax. We will use and discuss various techniques for spinning novelty fibers such as silk, blends, alpaca and cotton, enabling participants to broaden their experience and  spin more confidently. It’s a FUN day of trying new things, sharing, and going where ‘you’ve never gone before’.

Participants are expected to be proficient spinners on a spinning wheel. This is NOT a class that teaches participants how to spin. Please bring: Spinning Wheel, hand cards (if you have them), a small ball of singles-wool already spun, any spinning-gadget you need help with, a lazy kate, and a lunch. Workshop fee is $55 ($50 member) plus a $10 materials fee.
