The Heritage Center is focusing on the barn theme this year with the reconstruction of an historic barn on the center’s campus and the current museum exhibit, Remembering the Farm. The Farm & Barn tour will travel by motor coach to visit six farms in the Bucks-Montgomery County area, with an additional stop for lunch. Tour guides will be Roy Landis and Joel Alderfer.
We will be visiting the following farms and barns: Samuel Kriebel farm, Lower Salford Township, Montgomery Co. (has an early barn and a unique collection of antique farm machinery); Rittenhouse Family farm, Franconia Township (preserved, multi-generation farm and home of the last farming huckster in the area); Marwell Farm (the Gehman family) near Steinsburg, Bucks Co. (modern dairy, hog, and poultry farm, with a small orchard, supporting several families); Bolton’s Turkey Farm and Market, Silverdale (natural turkeys, chickens & Black Angus beef and busy farm market); Tussock Sedge Farms (Henry & Charlotte Rosenberger), Blooming Glen (grass-fed beef operation and farmland preservation); Penn View Farm (John & Paul Hockman families), near Dublin (dairy farm with milk bottling operation & dairy store).
Our lunch stop will be at Swamp Mennonite Church, near Steinsburg, PA., where we will enjoy a delicious buffet. The cost of the tour is $70 ($65 members) and includes the buffet lunch and gratuity for the bus driver. Tour participants will board the Hagey Coach at the Hagey Terminal located at 210 Schoolhouse Road, Souderton (located 1 ½ miles east of Route 113), The bus will depart on Saturday morning , October 26, at 8:00 A.M. with boarding at 7:45 A.M. The tour will return to the same location around 4:30 pm P.M. Your automobiles may remain parked at Hagey’s fenced in parking lot.
