Led by historian Joel Alderfer, visit the graves and hear the stories of World War I & II veterans and conscientious objectors buried in the Salford cemetery. In both world wars, there were young men from local Mennonite congregations who accepted military service, and some who chose alternate service when drafted. Why might some of these boys, raised in historic peace church congregations, have accepted, even volunteered for, service? What do we know about their war-time experiences? And what happened to them after they returned home? What about those who went as conscientious objectors?
Meet on-site at Salford Mennonite Cemetery, 480 Groffs Mill Rd, Harleysville, PA. No registration required.
