It’s a wonderful time of year to learn something new! Teens and adults ages 13+ receive an introduction to Fraktur from artist and educator Emily Smucker-Beidler.
Folks ages 13+ can come and learn about Fraktur while creating a small “teacher reward” piece to give to a loved one for Christmas. Three simple patterns based on Fraktur in the MHC collection will be provided to choose from to trace onto Bristol board. From here, participants will be shown ways to develop each design into a work that showcases their own personal flair while finding ideas and inspiration in Fraktur. All materials will be provided. All ability levels welcome.
Fee: $20/person materials
The specialized Fraktur watercolor sets that will be used during the workshop will also be available for purchase at the end of the session for $20 cash or check.
About the Instructor: Emily Smucker-Beidler
Ever since sixth grade, Emily Smucker-Beidler has been creating Fraktur. It’s an art she learned from Roma Ruth, a well-respected Fraktur artist from Montgomery County, PA. After receiving Bachelors’ and Masters’ degrees in Art Education, Emily has made her 31-year career in teaching art her passion, while continuing to create custom Fraktur for hundreds of clients. She brings her experience and enthusiasm for teaching to her Fraktur workshops and welcomes artists of all ages and ability levels.
