In Mennonite circles we often hear only the experiences of Conscientious Objectors who were from the Historic Peace Churches, and usually filtered through the perspective of an historian. By focusing on the personal writings of the C.O.s themselves, a fresh picture of the plethora of men and the complexities of their varying encounters and decisions may be reached. By broadening our scope to include others outside our own tradition, we may gain a deeper understanding of the important legacy of conscience passed down to us from a century ago.
Anne Yoder, archivist for the Swarthmore College Peace Collection will present on the topic.
