Program: “The Diverse DNA among Swiss Mennonite and Amish Families”

The Mennonite Heritage Center, 565 Yoder Road, invites the public to the program: “The Diverse DNA among Swiss Mennonite and Amish Families” by historian and genealogist Darvin Martin on Thursday,  October 26 at 7 pm.

This lecture particularly explores the yDNA signatures of Mennonite and Amish immigrant families, focused on those that arrived in Pennsylvania from Europe between 1683 and 1749. While Mennonites and Amish in North America represent relatively homogeneous families today, their ancient ancestry reveals a striking diversity. Swiss families descend through six of the twenty y-DNA haplogroups found throughout the world. Learn the geographical and socio-political reasons why Switzerland became a melting pot of ancient European cultures, and the migratory paths that led various waves of early Middle Eastern, African, Indian and Central Asian families into Alpine Europe.

Be sure also to attend Darvin’s program “DNA is Family Fare — Using DNA to Expand Your Family History” at the Summit View Auditorium of Souderton Mennonite Homes on October 19 at 7:00 pm.
