Learn about coffee, community and faith from Steve Hackman as he shares the story of One Village Coffee at the Mennonite Heritage Center on Thursday, January 26, at 6:30 p.m.
Hackman was the co-founder and co-owner of One Village Coffee from its inception in 2007 until 2023. As a certified B Corporation, One Village Coffee looked to do business in a different way. Reflecting on his approach, the most important aspect of the business was “purchasing mostly fair trade and organic coffee” while also “finding ways to give back to needs in our community and communities where One Village sourced coffee.”
A graduate of Dock Academy in Lansdale, as well as Eastern Mennonite University and University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics, Steve Hackman started his career as a home respiratory therapist before transitioning into sales for a medical respiratory company. But he maintained a community concern—for four years, Hackman served as a fundraiser for Stephens Children, an NGO, or charity organization just outside of Cairo Egypt called, The Garbage City, reaching up to 30,000 families and children who literally live off the garbage of Cairo. Providing housing, education, food, and clothing for thousands of children and camps for them during the summer.
