Nyce Barn Project

[soliloquy id=”439″]

We began this project in the summer of 2012 with a historic barn from Franconia Township. In spring 2013 we had the opportunity to acquire a second barn from Hilltown Township. This allowed us to expand the project and reconstruct a historic barn that will better serve our current needs for housing our historic farm equipment collection. The Nyce Barn (named for the late Paul M. Nyce of Franconia Township) is a historical exhibit in its own right through its many original details including the stones, hinges and wood. Right next door, you’ll find we’ve also rebuilt the corn crib. Additionally, this larger barn also provides storage for our equipment used at major events at the Mennonite Heritage Center, such as the WHACK & ROLL Croquet Tournament in May and the annual Apple Butter Frolic in October.

Preserving the Heritage and Sharing the Stories with You

We are glad for the facilities and resources we have here at the Mennonite Heritage Center. They are not ours to keep but care for as we gather and share the stories and artifacts from over three hundred years of Mennonite churches and communities in southeastern Pennsylvania. None of this would be possible without the help of many persons. We treasure the historic materials that are given, the volunteers who help organize, plan, and tell the stories, and the friends who support us. Most of all we, enjoy our visitors who come to experience and learn from our stories and history.
