September 12, 2010 - Hymn Sing at Salford Schwenkfelder Meetinghouse
6:00 pm

Built in 1869, this meetinghouse was last used in 1920 for Schwenkfelder worship services.  The meetinghouse and adjoining cemetery encompasses a rich history of the Schwenkfelder presence in Lower Salford and Towamencin township.  It is located on Fretz Road, Harleysville, between Wambold and Skippack Creek Roads.  The hymn sing will be led by John Ruth, Hiram Hershey and others.  Life Song #2 hymnals will be provided.

September 19, 2010 - "Brethren China Experience" by Dr. Jeffrey Bach
2:00 pm

Please join us on Sunday afternoon, September 19 at 2:00pm when Dr. Jeffrey Bach, Director of the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies at Elizabethtown College, will present a program in connection with the Life Center Gallery exhibit "No Greater Love: Church of the Brethren Mission in China".  The program will be followed by informal discussion in the exhibit with Dr. Bach and guest curator Dr. Gene Wampler, who grew up as the son of Brethren missionaries in China. Light refreshments will be served.  Exhibits will remain open until 5:00pm.


September 19 and 26, 2010 - Workshop on Singing in Community
7:00 pm at the Mennonite Heritage Center

Songleader and pastor Michael Bishop will lead singing and provide insight into the foundations of community / congregational song.  Mennonites have cultivated a tradition of singing together in worship.  In these workshops, the practice of building community voice will be explored.  Questions such as “Why do we sing in church?” and “Why do Mennonites often sing a cappella?” will be addressed. The bulk of the sessions will be spent in singing together in a room with great acoustics.  Come and bring friends!  All people can sing and all are welcome; ability to read music not required.  Admission by donation; no reservations needed.


October 2, 2010 - 37th Annual Apple Butter Frolic
10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Join in the harvest celebration at the 37th Annual Apple Butter Frolic at Living Hope Farm (park and shuttle from Harleysville Insurance, 355 Maple Ave., Harleysville, PA). The Frolic celebrates the autumn harvest with delicious Pennsylvania German food, special activities for children, and colorful crafts and farming demonstrations.  Admission is $6 adult, $2 for children from 6 to 12; children under 6 are admitted free of charge.

March 21, 2010 - "Fraktur Collection at the Free Library of Philadelphia" by Lisa Minardi

The Mennonite Heritage Center, 565 Yoder Road, Harleysville, invites the public to an illustrated program on Fraktur presented by Lisa Minardi on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 2 pm.  Fraktur is the colorful Pennsylvania German “fractured writing” created from the late seventeenth through the mid nineteenth century. Ms. Minardi, assistant curator of furniture at Winterthur Museum will trace the connection between European and American fraktur and also talk about her work with the fraktur collection at the Free Library of Philadelphia.  No registration is necessary - admission is by donation.


March 28, 2010 - Hymn Sing
6:30 pm, at Salford Mennonite Church

The Mennonite Heritage Center invites you to a Hymn Sing on Sunday, March 28 from 6:30 to 8 pm at Salford Mennonite Church, 480 Groff's Mill Rd., Harleysville, Pa.  Hiram Hershey, John Ruth and others will be leading this time of singing favorite hymns – no registration necessary, just come and join in good community singing.

April 22, 2010 - "Farmhouses of Bucks County" by Jeff Marshall
7:00 pm

The Mennonite Heritage Center, 565 Yoder Road, Harleysville, invites the public to a presentation by noted historian and author Jeff Marshall on his new book “Bucks County Farmhouses” on Thursday, April 22 at 7 pm.  This illustrated presentation will feature photographs of the Bucks County stone farmhouses that are an integral part of the region’s scenic beauty and history.  He will also discuss the few remaining Bucks County log houses that were more common in the eighteenth and early nineteenth century that previously thought. No registration is necessary. Admission is by donation.
