No Greater Love: Church of the Brethren Mission in China
August 24-November 2, 2010
Open House: Sunday, September 19 -- 2:00-5:00 pm
Presentation at 2:00 pm -- "Brethren China Experience" by Dr. Jeffrey Bach of the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies, Elizabethtown College
The exhibit "No Greater Love" was developed by guest curator Dr. Gene Wampler, who spent his early childhood years in China as the son of Brethren missionaries. American Brethren workers came to China during a tumultuous period in Chinese history. Politics, economics, disease and war changed China and its people. Brethren workers shared some of these hardships as they expressed their love for the Chinese people. Sickness was common and death was not unexpected for those living in China during the early twentieth century.
Please join us on Sunday afternoon, September 19 at 2:00pm when Dr. Jeffrey Bach, Director of the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies at Elizabethtown College, will present a program on the Brethren experience in China followed by informal discussion in the exhibit with Dr. Bach and Dr. Wampler. Light refreshments will be served. Exhibits will remain open until 5:00pm.
