in New Amsterdam, New York, Brooklyn, and Germantown, 1620-1850 Tour

“De Stilte in de Stad,” the quiet in the town, is a description of Mennonites in New Amsterdam and later New York. But what became of the Dutch Mennonites in New Amsterdam? Take a tour of the city to find out.
Additionally, learn how several decades later, as the “Mennonite-type Anabaptists” of New York almost disappeared, several families moved to Germantown and its surrounding areas in Pennsylvania.
Led by Daniel K. Ness, an experienced researcher and tour guide, participants will travel to Manhattan via coach. After a two hour walking tour and lunch, the bus will stop briefly at sites in Brooklyn before heading to the historic Germantown Mennonite Meethinghouse in Philadelphia.
The 12-hour tour has two pick-up/drop-off locations: Landis Homes (1001 E Oregon Rd, Lititz, PA 17543), and Mennonite Heritage Center (565 Yoder Rd. Harleysville, PA 19438). Lunch is own your own. A boxed meal will be provided for dinner.
The cost is $99 for members ($125 non-members). Registration is required and space is limited. The registration deadline is July 27, 2024.
