Mennonite Heritage CenterThe Mennonite Heritage Center, 565 Yoder Road, Harleysville, announces a presentation by area historian John Ruth on Thursday, September 14 at 7:30 pm. Dr. Ruth, who has written and spoken extensively about area history, will speak on the topic of the 1717 Mennonite emigration from Europe to Pennsylvania. The program is open to the public with admission by donation.

The presentation, entitled: “Three Boatloads. Three Centuries. Three Perspectives: The 1717 Mennonite Emigration to Pennsylvania” will be a narrative of (1) factors leading up to the sudden welling of migration that made the Mennonites an established presence in Pennsylvania, (2) what it felt like for both arrivers and observers, and (3) what a 300-year perspective highlights in the story.  Dr. Ruth will make special reference to the Salford Mennonite congregation of Harleysville, in view of their 300th anniversary observance on the following weekend.
